Microscope Lab - Animal Parts


Directions:


  1. Gather your spiral, pencil,  and lab supplies.
  2. Write your name and date in the top right corner.
  3. Plug the Zoomy in the back of a DESK TOP computer, not a laptop.
  4. In the finder, type in Zoomy. Open Zoomy in a desktop folder, not from the Internet. 
  5. Open up Digital Viewer.
  6. The microscope should be on at this point and you should see a window viewer on the computer by now. If not, see Mrs. Robinson.
  7. View the slides with the Zoomy.
  8. Trace a circle in your spiral.
  9. Draw what you see with the Zoomy.
  10. Label the drawing and the X viewing size.
  11. Do this with each slide.
  12. Write the heading REFLECTIONS:
  13. Answer the following questions: How do the specimens look under the microscope compared to what you can see on the slide? What parts were you able to identify? What "real" size items in your world look similar to the microscopic sized items you see with the Zoomy?

Crayon Maker - Physical Changes

To start:

1. Gather your spiral and pencil.
2. Write the title on the top line.
3. Write your name and date in top right corner.



Directions:


1. Learn about how crayons are made:

2. Read about physical changes

3. Draw a cartoon of Linus explaining to Sally what a physical change is (or use 2 other cartoon characters of choice).

4. Draw a flow chart to help someone identify a physical change (separate from a chemical change).

5. List 3 examples of physical changes (from reading). Create 2 of your own.

6. Create a few new colorful crayons and see a physical change happen!

Mercury-Gemini-Apollo (5th only)

To start:

1. Gather your spiral and pencil.
2. Write the title on the top line.
3. Write your name and date in top right corner.


Directions: 

1. Read the card and study the picture.
2. Write three facts after reading the card.
3. Write three observations from the picture on the front of the card. 

  • What comparisons can you make?
  • What differences do you see?
  • How does the Apollo capsule compare to the Mercury capsule?
  • Would you have flown in any of these capsules? Why or why not?

Project Apollo-Saturn V (5th only)


To start:

1. Gather your spiral and pencil.
2. Write the title on the top line.

Once you are completed, let Mrs. Robinson know. Make sure your science spiral is turned in each day for the labs to be reviewed.
