Science Lab – Maraccas

Science Lab – Maraccas

To Start:

Directions:
1  Carefully place the items in the bag on your desk.
2  Make sure you have your spiral and a pencil.

Directions
1.  Write your name and date in top right corner.
2.  Write the title centered on the top line.
3.  Go to http://www.percussionclinic.com/infolat.htm and read (and listen to!) the percussion instruments.
4.   Go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/latinmusicusa/index.html#/en/exp/maracas/universe and read, watch and listen about maracas.
5.  Write down three of your favorite facts about maracas.
6.  Let’s see what you remember form music class. Try the rhythms found on the sheet A in the bag.  Can you figure out what the accent mark is and what it means? (ignore the R and L on this page)
7.  Try the rhythms on sheet B. If you can master it, try doing two different rhythms (from sheet B), one with each hand.  Or, ask your teacher if you can have a partner or two and try a duet or trio.
8.  Perform your best rhythm for your teacher or your whole class!
